“Today is a Thousand Seasons” is an ongoing project about communities in the Alpine region. Local rituals, such as winter banishments and harvest festivals, have been passed down for centuries. This project focuses on the ones behind the distinctive masks and costumes, the the younger generation, who sustain these rituals.

Honoring the elders is often a motivation, as well as its significance within the community. Rooted in seasonal cycles, these practices invite participation in the rhythms of weather, day and night, but also the ongoing transformation of nature. Rather than positioning humans as separate from nature, they emphasize interdependence and foster a deeper connection with the natural environment.

“Today is a Thousand Seasons” is an exploration of tradition, transformation and identity among youth in the Alpine region.
