“Today is a Thousand Seasons”

“Today is a Thousand Seasons” is an exploration of tradition, transformation and identity among youth in the Alpine region. Local rituals, such as winter banishments and harvest festivals, have been passed down through generations. This project focuses on the ones behind the distinctive masks and costumes, the younger generation, who carry these practices forward.

Honoring elders is often a motivation to keep traditions alive, as well as its significance within the community. Rooted in seasonal cycles, the rituals invite participation in the rhythms of weather, light, and time, while reflecting the ongoing transformation of nature. Rather than positioning humans as separate from nature, they emphasize interdependence and foster a deeper connection with our natural environment.
